Why does 3xM choose Christian television?
- In the areas where 3xM has been working over the last years, the influence and television viewing figures have increased considerably. Project Manager Gilbert Okoronkwo in Ivory Coast says: “Television has a great deal of influence on society. You see the same thing happening everywhere: where there is television, radio is more or less reduced to silence.”
- When someone hears something, he remembers 25 percent of it. But when you see and hear, you remember 50 percent.
- There is a wide reach. In the Middle East, many people watch broadcasts via the satellite, which reaches an enormous audience. In Africa the number of viewers per television is high.
In many cases the broadcasting time in the second- and third world countries comprises mostly programs from the West. These programs are not suitable for the African culture. Among these broadcasts, a program with good quality and content, in their own language and based on their own culture, is a relief . Then social subjects can also be discussed.
Does 3xM work together with other organizations?
From its inception, 3xM has been working together with representatives of the churches in the project countries. The boards of our partner organizations are composed as much as possible along broad and interdenominational lines. This cooperation is very important; it is a good testimony. But it is also important to be able to offer good follow-up care and to keep attuning the content of the programs to the main issue.
How does 3xM finance its work?
The major part of the proceeds is raised through donations from private contributors. The rest comes from the local churches and congregations, national church organs, business people, businesses and subsidies.
Do the partner organizations receive money for their programs?
The situation that we have in the Netherlands is unique. There is no other country with this form of subsidy from the government. This means that our partner organizations themselves must bear the costs that they make. In some cases there has to be paid for broadcasting but not always. We set high demands concerning quality as regards both the technical aspects and the content. We see that in all our project countries, the programs are gladly accepted, also via satellite stations and commercial broadcasting stations.
What is the effect of all these broadcasts?
By working in the country's own language and on the basis of the country's own culture, the programs reach the local population as closely as possible. That is what works best in order to spread the Good News in the various areas. We measure the impact of broadcasts through professional impact researches.
