More than 50% of the people Mali are illiterate; for them, television in their own language is an important source of information. In this country where the largest part of the population is Muslim, the Protestant churches and organizations established ACCM (Association Chrétienne de la Communication au Mali - Christian Association of Communication in Mali).
There is only one television station in Mali, and there are many viewers per TV. The television is often outside, and everyone who wants to keeps watching. Three million people watch the Christian program.
From poor to very poor
Mali is one of the five poorest countries in the world. Drought and famine are part of daily life. The population is poor to very poor, and the economic prospects are bad. The Protestant churches help, but cannot bear the costs of the Christian television work themselves by a long shot. Because despite admirable generosity, they are also dealing with a lack of funds.
