Christian Television Launches in Central African Republic
Christian Television Launches in Central African Republic
With the launch of broadcasts in Central African Republic, Christian television is now available in ten West African countries. Since December 2008, people have been able to watch two Christian television programs in the Central African Republic. With these new programs, Christian television is available in ten West African countries. Every Sunday afternoon at 5 PM, the family program “Et Votre Famille” (How about your family?) alternates with the HIV/AIDS focused program “Miel Mortel” (Deadly Honey). Both programs are produced and broadcast in Ivory Coast by partner organizations supported by Netherlands based 3xM
Enthusiastic youth
3xM’s local partner reports that these new broadcasts are generating many viewer responses. “Especially youth are very positive about ‘Miel Mortel’, a program that addresses friendship and sexuality using Biblical standards and values. The program is a valuable addition to the information viewers receive from the variety of sources they encounter daily.”
Unrest
The Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world. Political unrest has been the norm in this country for many years. Only half of the population is able to read and write. This combination of unrest and illiteracy, as well as poor access to good information on the subject, have been major factors contributing to the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country. The result is that these Christian programs are being well received and with a show of great appreciation.
Range
The Christian programs are broadcast via the regional station TéléCentrafrique. Its range reaches about 500,000 viewers, primarily in the capital city of Bangui. However, our program partner is constantly investigating opportunities to broadcast the programs on stations outside this area.
3xM
For nearly 30 years, the mission organization 3xM has partnered with churches and Christian organizations in producing and broadcasting television programs. The transference of knowledge is an important part of 3xM's mission. Working mainly in Africa and Asia, 3xM focuses primarily on countries where there are few Christians. An overview of the work field is available on the website www.3xm-online.org
