Last week, the Christian TV program Miel Mortel in Ivory Coast began broadcasting on RTI1, the main TV channel in the country. Thanks to the shift from the previous channel RTI 2, the program is now available nationwide with a potential reach of 7 million viewers. For several years, 3xM has been supporting this program.
Miel Mortel (Deadly Honey) informs viewers about HIV/AIDS, faithfulness, and abstinence from a Biblical perspective. This subject attracts high ratings and many viewers respond to the program in a country where 40% of the population is Muslim.
“After the first broadcast on RTI 1, we couldn’t handle the calls after the program”, says Gilbert Okoronkwo MA, president of 3xM’s partner organization PEMA/ACT in Ivory Coast. In total, we received almost 600 responses within five days, an overwhelming response.”
“I am touched by the story of the woman who shared on TV that she prostituted herself for money and got infected by HIV,” says a 19 year old man. “She indicated that her life would have been different if she had known Jesus. I will have myself tested on HIV. I have decided to live differently and devote my life to God.”
Miel Mortel targets the African youth between 12 and 30 years. It wants to make them aware of the existence and danger of HIV/AIDS. Miel Mortel is also broadcast in Burkina Faso, Togo, Cameroon, Senegal, Benin, DR Congo, and Gabon with a total potential reach of 28 million viewers.
For nearly 30 years, the mission organization 3xM has partnered with churches and Christian organizations in producing and broadcasting television programs. The transference of knowledge is an important part of 3xM's mission. Working mainly in Africa and Asia, 3xM focuses primarily on countries where there are few Christians.
