TV programme shows African young people an appealing lifestyle

Wednesday 06 October 2010 13:21

The christian programme 'Nouvelle Génération' (new generation) is broadcasted in more and more countries in Africa. Besides Burkina Faso and Senegal, broadcasts have also been realized in the Central African Republic and Togo. This weekly programme aims at young Africans who move to the city with the expectation to build up a new existence. However, in the city they often end up in a world of drugs and prostitution. The programme 'Nouvelle Génération' offers these young people an alternative.

Different direction

In the programme young people who have taken a different direction appear in front of the footlights. They have built up an existence with faith, confidence and perseverance. Sometimes this happened by learning a trade, sometimes by setting up a small business. The programme consists of a commentary, street interviews and a talk show in which guests tell how their belief in God gives them courage and helps them to persevere. The studio audience can ask questions.

Handicap

A viewer from the Central African Republic tells that the programme gives him hope: “In a broadcast of 'Nouvelle Génération' I saw a blind man who, despite his handicap, earned his money as a woodworker. I hope that more people with handicaps will participate in the broadcasts, so that people can learn that, even though someone is handicapped, this does not force him to beg, but that it is possible to earn money in a meritable way.”

3xM

For nearly 30 years 3xM supports local christians in producing and broadcasting television programmes. Passing on knowledge is part of the mission. 3xM particularly aims at countries where few christians live and is mainly active in Africa and Asia.
