3xM has begun working with partners in Indonesia to produce a 26-part Christian television series. "Recently conducted field research indicates that the timing was right for 3xM to move ahead with this project," Martien Timmer, International Director of 3xM, reflects. "The television series will air via the national public television station TVRI, starting Saturday October 5 at 3.30 PM. Through this outlet, these programs have the potential to communicate to 72% of the nearly 240,000,000 inhabitants." Separate research conducted by the Media Research Institute indicates that television is rapidly becoming a more viable media outlet than radio in this nation made up of over 6,000 inhabited islands.
Unity Demonstrated
By mandate, the national public television station TVRI in Indonesia provides free airtime for all religions. A collaborative effort led by the Indonesian Council of Churches (PGI) and representatives of the Protestant, Evangelical, and Roman Catholic churches in the country has been initiated to capitalize on this opportunity. 3xM has been instrumental in making this cooperative project possible. Timmer, recognizing a wonderful ecumenical event taking place, states, "The unity that is going to be displayed by these churches provides a magnificent Christian witness."
Informative
The program is designed to be an informative series about Christianity and the Christian worldview. Included in the program is a mix of street and studio interviews, popular Christian music, spiritual teach, and a Christian response to a variety of social issues.
Pluralistic Country of Indonesia
Indonesia represents the nation with the largest Muslim population in the world, with over 86% of the population claiming adherence to this one religion. However, with a few exceptions, such as the Atjeh region, Christians live in relative safety. That 3xM has chosen to expand into Indonesia is in line with its policy to focus on the 10/40 Window.
For nearly 30 years 3xM has partnered with Christians in producing and broadcasting television programs. The transference of knowledge is an important part of 3xM's mission. Working mainly in Africa and Asia, 3xM focuses primarily on countries where there are few Christians.
